The Red Cross Orientation Project

Making a new start can seem a daunting prospect. The British Red Cross aims

to help refugees and asylum seekers adapt to life in the UK by familiarising

them with the local area and helping them access essential services. Working

closely with other local organisations and agencies, we seek to enable people

to develop their self-reliance and confidence within a short period of time.

Information: Project Flyer -- Tracing Service Information -- Tracing Case Study

We can help by:

> offering initial orientation support with a volunteer caseworker for a

necessary period

> providing information and practical support in accessing essential health,

welfare, education and legal services, and dealing with unfamiliar systems

> providing information on local support networks, community groups, and

other social networks

> giving emergency provisions and clothing

> signposting to other services and agencies assisting refugees and asylum

seekers

> referring to other British Red Cross services, such as International Tracing

and Message Information Leaflet & Case Study

> providing training to become a volunteer
